Responsible gambling

Every game we review has a house edge — played long enough, the casino wins. Gambling can be entertainment worth paying for, but it is never a way to make money. Here's how to keep it that way, and where to get help if it stops being fun.

The ground rules

  • Only gamble money you can afford to lose. Treat the amount as spent the moment you deposit — a win is a bonus, not the plan.
  • Never chase losses. Yesterday's loss doesn't change today's odds; depositing again to "win it back" is how small losses become large ones.
  • Set limits before you play, not during a session. Decide the deposit, the loss ceiling, and the time budget while you're calm.
  • Don't gamble when low, stressed, or drinking — and never with borrowed money.
  • Keep gambling one hobby among several. The moment it's your main way to fill time, step back.

Warning signs worth taking seriously

Ask yourself honestly — or ask about someone you're worried about:

  • Spending more money or time than intended, repeatedly
  • Hiding gambling from family or friends, or lying about losses
  • Gambling with money meant for rent, bills, or food — or borrowing to gamble
  • Feeling restless or irritable when trying to cut down
  • Gambling to escape problems or to relieve a bad mood
  • Needing bigger stakes to feel the same excitement

More than one of these is a strong signal to stop and talk to one of the organisations below. All of them are free and confidential.

Use the tools casinos must give you

Every licensed casino we review offers account controls, usually under "Responsible gambling" or "Player protection" in your account settings. We check for them as part of our review process:

  • Deposit limits — a daily, weekly, or monthly cap set in advance. Lowering a limit applies immediately; raising one has a cooling-off delay.
  • Loss and wager limits — caps on net losses or total stakes over a period.
  • Session reminders — on-screen reality checks showing time and money spent.
  • Time-outs — a short break of a day to six weeks during which you can't log in.
  • Self-exclusion — locking your account for months or years, or permanently. The operator must close access and stop marketing to you.

Blocking software adds a layer the casino can't undo: BetBlocker (free) and Gamban block gambling sites and apps across your devices.

Under 18s

Gambling under 18 is illegal and everything on this site is written for adults. If you're a parent, parental-control tools and the blocking apps above can keep gambling sites off shared devices.

What Gamgrid does on its side

We mark every page with 18+, we disclose how we earn, we publish real wagering requirements and withdrawal limits instead of just bonus headlines, and we score casinos down when their player-protection tools are weak. If you spot content on Gamgrid that you think glamorises gambling or misstates a risk, tell us — we'll fix it.
